The Speech That Almost Made Me Sick
Political consulting is a business that is always on the move. As much as the Systems Administrator part of me strives to schedule order, I secretly do appreciate the spice of entropy.
As I got into the car I ask Ellen if I could look at her speech for Amanda Fritz's swearing in. What was written on the legal pad she handed to me in the back seat was by no means horrible. I figured that since we were carpooling to the Southwest I would make some refinements. That was my first mistake.
The second one was being an urban cyclist who is prone to motion sickness and attempting to type on my laptop while being the passenger in a moving automobile. By the time we got to Ellen's apartment for her to retrieve her public notary gear I was on the verge of paying for this mistake. I have to commend the rest of the passengers in the car as I had the window rolled down savoring the 35 degree air rushing over my face.
By the time that we arrived to the community center in Multnomah Village I was determined to be the victor of this rewrite (while keeping the contents of my dinner). We had some time to kill before the ceremonies started so we went into a local coffee shop.
In normal circles buying the person who's birthday proper it is a drink is appropriate. That is unless you are with a group that only has credit cards in a cash only establishment. Thanks again for the cup of tea Jim and by the way... Happy Birthday.
As we drank Jim's birthday treat the group collaboratively crafted a great speech that Ellen delivered flawlessly.
" I can honestly say that Portland got it's money's worth from Amamda's campaign. As Amanda takes office she brings with her an impeccable work ethic, an experienced staff and the needs of all residents top most in her heart.
As the manager for a Publicly Financed campaign I and team knew that we were working to elect a someone who who will represent all of Portland... for me it was not a surprise that over 71% of you agreed. I look forward to getting more great candidates elected and educating voters.
As Amanda assumes her duties as a city commissioner, I look forward to continuing to educate voters and getting more great candidates like her elected."
